Weekend Update: Sneaky & Sick

Is anyone else jumping back and forth between feeling sick and healthy?  I feel like I have been doing this dance for over a week now.  And today is no exception.  I just want to be at home curled up in bed.  But there are too many other things to get done so oh well!

Friday I had back to back office parties.  I had mine during the day, and then Friday night we had the hubby's office party.  Fortunately or unfortunately, I did not hear about the shooting until after my office party.  This is totally going off on a tangent, but I wanted to post this in case you haven't seen it floating around on Facebook.  It made me bawl my eyes out, so fair warning, but it is such a great message that I had to share.

Twas' 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38 when 20 beautiful children stormed through heaven's gate. their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air. they could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there. they were filled with such joy, they didn't know what to say. they remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day. "where are we?" asked a little girl, as quiet as a mous
e. "this is heaven." declared a small boy. "we're spending Christmas at God's house." when what to their wondering eyes did appear, but Jesus, their savior, the children gathered near. He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same. then He opened His arms and He called them by name. and in that moment was joy, that only heaven can bring those children all flew into the arms of their King and as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace, one small girl turned and looked at Jesus' face. and as if He could read all the questions she had He gently whispered to her, "I'll take care of mom and dad." then He looked down on earth, the world far below He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand, "Let My power and presence re-enter this land!" "may this country be delivered from the hands of fools" "I'm taking back my nation. I'm taking back my schools!" then He and the children stood up without a sound. "come now my children, let me show you around." excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran. all displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can. and i heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight, "in the midst of this darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT."

Anyway, back to my weekend, because let's be honest, after reading that you really care.  I busted out my favorite piece of holiday bling for all of the Christmas parties this weekend.

It's from the Kate Spade Outlet for those of you who are curious.

Saturday I slept in and woke up with a sore throat, feeling achy and just generally yucky.  No bueno.  We were suppose to go to Madison for our annual Water Ski Team Christmas party.  And I just couldn't do it.  For those of you who know me IRL (in real life), you know that I don't ever miss things like that.  I am very much a You Only Live Once or I can sleep when I'm dead type person.  Except at some point I started to feel old.  And tired.  And this weekend, it was just too much.  And I knew I wouldn't have a chance at being healthy if I went.  So we stayed home. But that didn't mean that Saturday was quiet however.  Because we got to be sneaky.

Two of my hubby's good friends from college have been dating for forever.  Last week, he got a phone call.  The phone call.  The hey I'm going to propose to my girlfriend of forever next weekend, can you take pictures?  And OF COURSE we agreed to help.  Sickness or not, we were going to take pictures.  Well....really I took video.  The hubby took the pictures.  So we drove into the city, in the rain, to Lincoln Park Zoo, to take photos.  The Zoo puts up some AMAZING Christmas lights this time of year.  I had no idea.

Even though being out in the rain and the cold was totally worth it, I'm pretty sure it didn't have any amazing health benefits.  Oh well.  She said yes!  They are engaged!  And we couldn't be happier for them.  It was such an honor to be a small part of it. And it was so much fun.  So after popping open some bubbly in the zoo, toasting, and taking a few more photos they continued on with their evening and we went home to watch a movie and go to bed.

Sunday was the Bears vs Packers game.  We are a house divided.  Needless to say, I really like when my team wins.

How was your weekend?
