5 Reasons I Married My Husband

This week, Nicole's (over at Moments That Define Life) Listable Life is about your spouse or significant other.  Britt is going to eat this up.  A whole post about him?  I can feel his head swelling already.  I'm going to try not to make this super sappy or cheesy.  Because yes I love him and yes he is my best friend, but we are not a mushy smushy goopey couple.  Most of the time anyway.

So here we go, in no particular order, 5 Reasons I Married My Husband:

1).  We Have (most) of the Same Hobbies.

Some people say opposites attract.  And in many ways my hubby and I are very different.  But we like to do A LOT of the same things.  I can't imagine marrying someone and then having to compromise on say, a vacation, because we want to do different things.  Some couples adapt to each others hobbies, but we have always had similar interests.  Water skiing, snow skiing, hanging out on a boat, you name it and we do it, together.  And we always have a blast.

2).  He loves to drive.

If one of us didn't like road trips, the other would be SCREWED!  It is almost summer.  Pretty much from Memorial Day to Labor Day (give a few weekends on either side, not take) Friday afternoon rolls around and we hop in the car for 5 1/2+ hours to drive up to the lake for the weekend.  And then Sunday night we turn around and drive home.  EVERY WEEKEND.  And he doesn't mind.  And most of the time, I don't mind.  (yes it does get a little old, but it is better than the alternative: not going to the lake).  And during the winter months we are off to visit someone, somewhere for the weekend at least once or twice a month.  And I wouldn't have it any other way.

Side story to illustrate just how much he loves to drive:  A few years ago, back when we were in that half-friends half-dating stage, we drove down to Louisiana for a waterski tournament.  That we weren't even skiing in.  There were 4 of us in the car.  Britt drove THE ENTIRE WAY.  About 14 hours.  Yes he is a little nuts.

We looked attractive after driving through the night and not sleeping. Note the pink.

3).   He lets me love pink.

I am kind of obsessed with the color pink.  And it means I often bring home random pink items.  Household items, jewelry, purses...the list goes on and on.  We even have a hot pink Kitchenaid Mixer.  (For the record, I did not buy it.  It was a wedding gift.  And no we didn't register for it.  It was a fantastic surprise given to us by friends-who-are-family because they know me that well.)  Britt is really good sport about it.  Just this weekend while I was cleaning out my closet, I came across a pair of pink pumps that I probably haven't worn in 2 or 3 years.  I was going to suck it up and part with them, but Britt took one look at them and said: "Keep them."  Now if that isn't love,  I don't know what is!

4).  He knew that marrying me meant that he got a package deal. A 2-for-1 Special.

He got me and my best friend!  She and I are completely inseparable, even though we no longer live in the same state.  We were roomies for years.  We go together like Rama lama lama ke ding a de dinga a dong....and that's the way it should be!  Wha oooo yeah!  (come on people...Grease!)  When Britt said I do, he didn't just get in-laws.  He got a Roomie-In-Law.

5).  Ok, I guess I have to get a little mushy.  He really is my best friend.  He gets me the way no one else does.  He puts up with me and all of my little quirks good, bad or otherwise and still loves me.  We balance each other out.  I can't imagine my life without him, and sure don't want to.  Yesterday was our 9 month anniversary and I am looking forward to many many more.
